    Air Europa Baggage Allowance

Air Europa is a budget-friendly airline from Spain, a common option for anyone who wants to travel around Europe. Due to being a low-cost carrier, whether the airline is strict with luggage allowance is one of the biggest concerns most travellers worry about.

So, what are the requirements of Air Europa regarding baggage allowance? How to save both your time and budget, avoiding any unnecessary procedures before your flight with them? Here is a simple guide to help you!

    Overview

Founded in 1986, Air Europa (formerly known as air españa sa) is the third largest Spanish airline, just after Iberia and Vueling. In 2019, Air Europa became the first international company to be licensed to operate domestic flights in Brazil. In the same year,  International Airlines Group (IAG) offered to buy the airline for €1 billion. However, due to the global pandemic and other factors, the acquisition is yet to be resolved. Air Europa is still a private company. Nonetheless, the IAG is one of the company’s largest shareholders.

Its headquarters is on the Balearic island of Mallorca. They offer budget flights to over 130 destinations around the world. The aviation company is a full member of the SkyTeam Alliance and certified as a 3-Star airline by Skytrax. Air Europe is well known for its fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners, which provide a superior experience for passengers with better air quality.

    Air Europa hand luggage explained.

    Handbags

Overall, your cabin bags must meet the following standards:

    • Handbag(s) with maximum dimensions of 55 cm x 35 cm x 25 cm / 21.6 x 13.7 x 9.8 in (Length x Width x Height); handles, pockets and wheels included.

    • A personal accessory with maximum dimensions of 40 cm x 30 cm x 15 cm / 15.7 x 11.8 x 5.9 in must be stored under the seat.

As for weight restrictions, they are subject to change based on your fare class. Here’s what your carry-on baggage allowance is in detail:

    • Economy class: 1 x baggage weighing up to 10 kg (22 lbs) plus 1 underseat bag

    • Business class: 2 x baggage weighing up to 14 kg (30.9 lbs) total plus 1 underseat bag.

Note: If you are on a flight operated by the ATR fleet, special baggage restrictions apply; your bags must comply with the following rules:

    • Maximum dimensions of 55 cm x 35 cm x 20 cm / 21.6 x 13.7 x 7.8 in

    • Weight limit of 8 kg (17 lbs).

Take note that some aeroplanes like Embraer E145 (mostly used for short or medium-haul flights) are smaller, so you may need to check in your cabin bag due to the limited space available. Refer to their website or contact centre for more information.

Additional hand luggage is, unfortunately, not available for purchase. Therefore, you should pack your stuff according to the airlines’ rules in the first place to avoid any hassle at the airport.

    Checked Baggage

Air Europa’s Health and Safety rules for baggage transported in the hold also vary depending on the passenger’s fare type. It is as follows:

    • Economy Standard/Flex and Premium Standard: 1 x 23 kg (50 lbs) checked baggage

    • Premium Flex for long haul: 2 x 23 kg (50 lbs) checked baggage

    • Business2 x 32 kg (70.5 lbs) checked baggage.

In addition, all the baggage must be within 158 cm (62 in) in total size and not weigh over 23 kg (50 lbs). The airline offers an option to increase your checked bags allowance to 32 kg (70 lbs). To do so, please contact their Call Centre and offices at the airport to purchase this additional baggage allowance. Do note that this is non-refundable.

*For more information, refer to Air Europa’s main website. There, you can find more details about exceptional cases with additional regulations and rights.

    Excess Baggage Fee

Any carry-on or checked baggage that exceeds the limit is treated as a special package. In those cases, different rules apply to your baggage. You can find more information below.

When your cabin baggage has all the following characteristics:

    • Unable to fit into the overhead compartment and/or underseat storage

    • You want to carry it into the cabin

You have to purchase one or more seats for the carry-on bags. The seat price is equal to the ticket price at the time (airport tax excluded). You are not allowed to put the excess baggage in the emergency exit row. Plus, it is required to wrap the bags and make sure they won’t get in the way of the front seat reclining.

Checked baggage that exceeds 158 cm (62 in) linear dimension will be considered special baggage in the hold. When this happens, passengers must pay a minimum additional fee of €150, depending on the flight route. Mobility aids, musical instruments and sports equipment are the exceptions. Check the airline’s main website and/or Contact centre for more information.

Note: Your cabin bag and checked baggage will be denied transportation if they exceed 75 kg (165 lbs) and 32 kg (70 lbs), respectively. So remember to not pack your stuff beyond these amounts.

    Sports equipment And CPAP

To transport your sports equipment, you will have to book a separate service, as it will not be included in the baggage.

Equipment for scuba diving, hunting, surfing, paragliding, and pole vaulting will need to be registered with the Air Europa Call Centre. Others can be booked on their website. You must pack it as a single package, with a maximum weight of 23kg or pay an extra fee to increase the weight up to 32kg.

Air Europa provides specific requirements for each equipment, so you can visit their website for official conditions and fees.

Regarding medical equipment, as long as you have a certificate issued by a doctor within 2-10 days before the flight, you can bring it free of charge on the flight, and it will not be counted in your baggage allowance. However, it needs to be packed separately so that the officers can check its information at the check-in gate.

Each medical equipment has different requirements that Air Europa states specifically on their website. Overall, they do not decline any kind of medical device on flights. But some are not allowed to be used and will require a different way of packing. You will also need to fill out a medical factsheet to use medical equipment on the flight.

To check in, Air Europa offers 2 means: online through their website or mobile app, and offline at the counter.
