We’ve also included handy tips on cabin bags and underseat bags that meet Oman Air’s size limits. With the right bag and the right info, you can pack smart, travel light, and breeze through the airport.
Overview of Oman Air and Baggage Policy
Oman Air is the national airline, established in 1993, with its home base in Muscat. You’ll see them flying both within Oman and to destinations all over the world. They even run air taxis and charter flights. Their planes are pretty modern too - from Boeing 737s to 787 Dreamliners - and the service on board has that warm, welcoming Omani touch.
Most of their flights go through Muscat International Airport, the main gateway into Oman. From there, they connect to more than 50 destinations across 27 countries. You’ll spot their name on routes to big-name cities like London, Paris, Frankfurt, Dubai, and Delhi, as well as plenty of other spots across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
Now, about the Oman Air baggage allowance. What you can take really depends on your ticket type. For hand luggage, it’s 7 kg if you’re in Economy, and 14 kg (two bags of 7 kg each) if you’re in Business Class. Checked baggage in Economy is usually somewhere between 20-30 kg, while Business Class gets you 40-60 kg. There’s also an Economy Saver ticket; it’s cheaper, but you don’t get any checked baggage with it, only 7 kg for your carry-on.
Oman Air’s Cabin Luggage Allowance

If you’re flying Economy with Oman Air, you can take one piece of cabin baggage weighing up to 7 kg (about 15 lbs). In Business Class or the more premium Business Studio, you can bring two pieces of cabin baggage, with each one weighing no more than 7 kg.
The total size – that’s length + width + height – shouldn’t be more than 115 cm (45 inches).

As part of the Oman Air hand baggage allowance, you can take your standard hand luggage plus a personal item at no extra charge. This could be a small handbag, a neatly packed coat, a laptop bag, or even things like crutches, a folding wheelchair, or a musical instrument – as long as they fit in the overhead locker or under the seat in front of you (see Q18 here).
One more thing to note: if you’re travelling with an infant, you get an extra 10 kg baggage allowance on all fare types – except for Economy Saver.
Here’s a smart trick if you want to travel light and skip paying for extra bags. The CabinZero 28L backpack is designed to fit under the seat on virtually every major airline – even the strictest ones. At just 600g, it’s incredibly light, giving you more weight allowance for your belongings. It has a padded 15.6-inch laptop sleeve and is coated with a water-resistant layer to protect your things from unexpected showers.
Every CabinZero backpack also comes with a lifetime warranty and an integrated Okoban tracking tag, which helps increase the chances of getting your bag back if it’s lost. Millions of travellers around the world have used it to dodge baggage fees. Pick one up and fly with Oman Air without a care.

There’s no limit to the number of bags you can check in as long as you stay within your weight allowance.
That said, no single bag can weigh more than 32 kg (71 lbs) – even if your total allowance is higher. Anything heavier won’t be accepted at the check-in desk. The maximum total size (length + width + height) for each piece is 158 cm (62 inches). If your luggage is larger than this, it may need special handling.
Because rules can vary depending on the aircraft type, it’s worth checking directly with Oman Air before you travel if you plan to check in anything oversized or overweight.
Oman Air Baggage Rules on Excess Fees
If your bags go over the free baggage allowance, you’ll need to pay an excess fee. Oman Air’s charges vary depending on your route, the weight of your luggage, and whether you’re travelling during peak or off-peak periods.
-
Charges increase in blocks of 5 kg.
-
Seasonal periods:
-
Off-Peak: 15 January to 31 May, and 15 September to 15 November
-
Peak: 1 June to 14 September, and 16 November to 14 January
-
Example rates: From the GCC (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE) to other regions, or vice versa: around USD 30-65 (Off-Peak) and USD 40-75 (Peak) for each 5 kg.
You can pre-purchase excess baggage online, through Oman Air’s call centre, or via an authorised travel agent. Purchased allowances are usually non-refundable, but if you cancel in advance, you can use them on another flight within 12 months. For the full list of Oman Air’s excess baggage fees, please check this site.
Sports Equipment And CPAP Baggage Policy
If you’re planning to fly with sports gear or a CPAP breathing device, here’s some important Oman Air baggage information you’ll want to know:
1. Sports Equipment
All sports equipment – like skis, golf clubs, diving gear or bicycles – can be included as part of your checked baggage allowance, as long as it doesn’t go over the weight on your ticket and fits within the total size limit of 159 cm / 62 in (width + depth + length), with a maximum weight of 70 lbs / 32 kg.
Golf club bags must not be longer than 137 cm / 54 in. If you’re bringing anything bigger than the sizes listed above, you’ll need to pay the standard fee for Special Baggage (23 kg) or Oversized Special Baggage (32 kg). If your item needs special handling or has an extra fee, it’s best to check in early to avoid delays at the counter.
2. CPAP Devices
If you want to use a CPAP machine during your flight, let the staff know when you book your ticket or as soon as possible. Oman Air baggage policy treats CPAPs as medical equipment. You’ll need to fill in a MEDIF (Medical Information Form) with your doctor. This, along with any details about the device (such as the manufacturer and model), will be reviewed by Oman Air’s medical team before approval.
