What To Bring To Disneyland: Must-Have Items for a Fun-Filled Disney Trip
The most thrilling adventure ever is planning a holiday to Disneyland. Getting ready for the best day ever, full of amazing rides and lifelong memories, is as exciting as the day itself. But what you bring along may make or break the trip.
In this guide, we’ll explore what to bring to Disneyland, which helps you enjoy every moment without stress. So, let’s dive into the must-have items that will make your trip as fun and memorable as possible!
Since you will walk a lot in the park, we try to shorten the list so you only bring the essentials without anything weighing you down.
Must-have Items
Regardless of your hectic schedule, you must pack all of the following items before going:
1. Comfortable Clothing and Footwear
You'll be walking miles - the parks are huge. In fact, the total land area can be as big as 500 acres. So, the number #1 thing to bring to Disneyland is well-broken-in shoes with support, like sneakers or sandals. If you’re prone to foot pain, consider adding gel insoles or compression socks to your packing list.
As for what to wear when you visit Disneyland, opt for breathable fabrics. However, the mornings and evenings can cool down unexpectedly, even in the summer. The pro tip is to layer your clothes. Bring along a light jacket or hoodie that you can easily tie around your waist as it warms up.
2. Backpack
Can you bring a backpack to Disneyland? Yes, you can, as long as it’s within the 24 x 15 x 18 inch dimensions, per the rules. You can even bring it on rides. Just remember to position it securely between your feet with the straps. If you still worry it might fly off, you can put your pack in the complimentary lockers (Tron Ride is the only one that requires you to do this before boarding).
You'll want a backpack that is big enough to hold all of your necessities for Disneyland but not so heavy that it weighs you down. We love ones with a 28L-30L capacity for ample space.
Plus, we always recommend going for a backpack that is water-resistant, especially if you are going on rides like Grizzly River Run, which can get you wet easily.
Check out the CabinZero 28L backpacks – cabin-sized packs perfect for weekend getaways at Disneyland without the bulk or the baggage fees. It is made of durable, water-repellent materials and even comes with a limited lifetime warranty.
A mini backpack, a fanny pack, or a crossbody is another great choice to bring your snacks, fan, towels, and water bottles. It will be a lifesaver when you’re in the queue for thrilling rides, and so grateful to be able to quickly grab your phone or a snack without digging through stuff.
CabinZero tips: Pack light as you’re going to walk around a lot. And leave some room for souvenirs or anything that catches your fancy.
3. Reusable Water Bottle
You can quickly feel exhausted when walking miles for a ride without any water. So, remember to bring a reusable water bottle (at least 1L) to stay hydrated and enjoy the park.
Disneyland has water refill stations scattered throughout the park (or just ask a friendly cast member, and they’ll happily point you to the nearest one). Food vendors and soda fountains might also provide you with water.
Make sure you have water before getting in queues, as the wait under the sun can be exhausting. Drink water immediately when you feel hot, but no sweat is coming out. Prehydration is another key (drink enough water the day before to let your body properly hydrate before the trip).
4. Snacks and Food
Although Disneyland is a foodie’s dream with all the churros and Mickey-shaped pretzels, the lines may waste your time, and the prices can drain your wallet quickly - especially if you’re visiting with family.
To avoid this case, you can choose to pack easy-to-carry, non-perishable snacks like granola bars, fruit snacks, nuts, or trail mix. Please remember that you must not keep them in glass.
5. Sun Protection

At Disneyland, you’ll be spending most of your day outdoors. A wide-brimmed hat and UPF clothes are a must. Don’t forget to cover often-overlooked spots like the back of your neck, ears, and even the tops of your feet if you're wearing sandals.
Start your day by applying a generous amount of sunscreen, and reapply every two hours or more often if you’re sweating or riding water attractions like Splash Mountain.
Wear a pair of sunglasses with UV protection to shield your eyes from harmful rays. Polarised lenses are a great option, too, as they’ll reduce glare, especially when watching the parades or relaxing by one of the park’s water features. Also, consider a strap or case to avoid losing them on thrill rides.
Tech Essentials
1. Power Banks

Trust us; nothing ruins the magic more than your phone dying just as you're about to snap a photo with Mickey or use your mobile ticket for entry. A 10,000 mAh power bank will be your trusty sidekick while being safe for flight. Anker is a reputable brand that many love and trust. If you forget your portable charger or need an extra boost, Disneyland has FuelRod kiosks where you can purchase or swap portable chargers.
2. Camera
Although you'll probably use the phone camera, if you're an avid photographer, consider bringing a digital or professional camera to record moments in breathtaking quality. Or, if using a traditional camera, you should pack extra batteries or memory cards to avoid running out of power or space halfway.
3. Gimbal or Tripod
A compact gimbal or portable tripod can be incredibly wondrous for those wanting to take photography or vlogging. A gimbal will stabilise your videos, especially while exploring on the move, and a mini tripod is perfect for capturing family photos in front of Disneyland’s most iconic spots.
Health and Safety Items
1. First Aid Kit
First off, you'll definitely want to bring some basic first aid supplies. A few small things can make a big difference if any cuts, blisters, aches, or pains come up after walking around all day, which is among the most common travel problems you might meet.
Here’s what we recommend including:
- Band-aids (5-10 pieces)
- Pain relievers (Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen)
- Moleskin for blister pads
- Antiseptic wipes or ointment
- Motion sickness tablets
- Thermometer
- Eye drops
2. Hand sanitiser
Hand sanitiser and disinfectant wipes have become essential items for any public outing, and Disneyland is no exception. You can bring a small, travel-sized hand sanitiser that fits into your bag or pocket; then, it is super easy to clean your hands between rides or before meals.
Having disinfectant wipes is another level of protection, especially when you sit at one of the park’s public dining areas or outdoor benches. Wiping down a table before eating can give you peace of mind and help prevent illness from spreading.
3. Personal Fan or Cooling Towel

It also gets super hot at Disneyland, so a personal fan or cooling towel can work wonders. A small battery-powered fan you can wear around your neck is perfect for standing in queues. Or a cooling towel you wet and drape on your neck provides instant relief. Both are lightweight and compact to help beat the heat.
4. Ziploc Bags
You might be wondering, "Why Ziploc bags?" But they are surprisingly useful at Disneyland. They’re perfect for protecting your phone and valuables on water rides - simply seal them up before the ride, and you don’t have to worry about anything getting wet.
Ziploc bags also come in handy for storing any wet clothes after a water ride or unexpected rain. Another great use is for snacks - keep food fresh, or even use them to stow away leftover treats you want to save for later.
Lastly, Ziploc bags are fantastic for keeping small items organised in your backpack, such as masks, extra batteries, or even loose change.
Fun and Themed Accessories
1. Mickey Ears or Character Clothes
Mickey or Minnie ears are the classic go-to accessory, and you’ll see plenty of people rocking them throughout the park. You can bring your own pair (cheaper if you buy online or from a third-party retailer) or pick up a new set at one of Disneyland’s many shops.
If you’re going all out, consider wearing your favourite Disney character clothes - such as a themed t-shirt, a Disneybounding outfit (subtle, fashionable outfits inspired by Disney characters), or even a full costume for little ones.

2. Info Card Attached to Your Phone or Bag
Since you will have lots of fun in the park, it’s easy to misplace things in the hustle and bustle of a busy day. Therefore, it’s worth preparing a small info card inside your phone case or backpack with your contact details. If your phone or bag gets lost, this makes it much easier for someone to return it. Include:
- Your name
- A phone number to reach you
- Your hotel name (if applicable) for longer trips.
3. Disney Autograph Book and Pen
For guests travelling with children (or those young at heart), a Disney autograph book is a great way to collect memories from character meet-and-greets. Characters like Mickey, Goofy, and the Disney Princesses love signing these books! Make sure to pack a thick marker or pen - larger pens are easier for costumed characters to hold.
4. Phone Lanyard
Since you’ll be using your phone constantly for photos, checking the Disneyland app, or mobile orders, having it easily accessible is crucial. A phone lanyard or a crossbody phone case is super convenient and keeps your phone secure while freeing up your hands.
5. Disney Pins
If you or your kids enjoy Disney pin trading, don’t forget to pack your collection. Pin trading with cast members and other guests is a long-standing Disneyland tradition. You can wear your pins on a lanyard or keep them in a small pouch. If you’re new to pin trading, you can start by purchasing a few pins in the park or online and get in on the fun!
Packing Tips For Your Disneyland Trip
Packing efficiently not only means you are packing the right items but also about packing smartly.

1. Don’t Forget the Basics: ID and Tickets
It might sound obvious, but one of the most critical things to bring is your tickets and ID.
First, if you're using mobile tickets on the Disneyland app, please double-check that they’re loaded onto your account before you leave for the park. Of course, your phone should be fully charged.
In case you’re travelling with your family or friends and holding the tickets for everyone, please take screenshots of each person’s ticket barcode so they’re easy to access quickly, even if the app is slow or if Wi-Fi is spotty.
For those with physical tickets, you can keep them in a secure spot like a small wallet or zippered compartment in your bag. A waterproof pouch or a laminated sleeve is even better, especially if you plan to go on water rides.
And don't forget your ID! You'll need it to enjoy a cold drink in the Happiest Place on Earth. Plus, it comes in handy for mobile purchases or reservations. Disney staff may also want to check it if anything comes up with your ticket.
2. Pack a Portable Blanket
No one can leave Disneyland without watching the nighttime fireworks. Many guests line up early for the best viewing spots, and standing or sitting on hard pavement can get uncomfortable after a while. Then, you’ll want something easy to carry around all day but gives you a comfortable sitting spot.
The solution is to invest in a foldable, travel-friendly blanket that can roll up tightly to fit in your bag. Choose one that is made from lightweight, water-resistant material and large enough to fit your group but still compact.
Another option is a beach towel or sand-free travel towel. These are typically thinner and lighter than traditional blankets. Some towels are made from quick-drying microfiber, which is especially handy if you get caught in a rain shower or if the ground is wet.
Invest in a quality backpack to bring all your Disneyland essentials.
3. Prepare Ponchos
The number of ponchos you should pack depends on your group and how you plan to use them. Generally, one lightweight, reusable poncho per person is enough.
If you’re travelling with kids or have a stroller or bags to cover, pack an extra poncho to protect your belongings as well. Disposable ponchos are also a great backup and take up minimal space in your bag.
After using it on a water ride or during a rain shower, you don’t want a soaking wet poncho to ruin the rest of the items in your backpack. So please use a ziplock bag or a small waterproof pouch to store your wet poncho.
