Overview of Scoot Airlines
Scoot is recognised as a Singapore Airlines subsidiary. This is one of Asia's leading low-cost carriers, with its headquarters at Changi International Airport (Singapore). Operating since 2012, it offers a wide network of destinations across Asia, Australia, and Europe, with its main hub at Changi Airport. And it has been recognised as the world’s best long-haul low-cost airline in 2025 by Skytrax.
As a low-cost carrier, Scoot provides a base fare that includes a seat and a standard carry-on allowance. Passengers can buy à la carte, such as additional services, additional checked baggage, in-flight meals, and seat selection. Scoot also offers "ScootPlus," a premium economy option with wider seats, more legroom, and additional amenities.
How Much Baggage Does Scoot Allow?

Scoot Airlines hand luggage rules explained.
Scoot's carry-on baggage allowance is determined by the price class you select, so if you need additional luggage for your journey, consider purchasing a higher ticket class.
According to the airline's standards, the hand luggage size is as follows:
| Carry on | Personal item | Max Total Weight | |
| Economy | 22 x 14 x 9 in / 54 x 38 x 23 cm | 16 x 12 x 4 in / 40 x 30 x 10cm | 15 lbs / 7kg |
| ScootPlus | 33 lbs / 15kg |
So in essence, everyone can bring 2 pieces of hand luggage, as long as it fits the size requirements.
For the Economy Fare, all travellers, including adults and children seated in their own seats, are permitted to bring up to 15 lbs / 7kg of carry-on baggage on board. ScootPlus passengers are allowed to bring up to 33 lbs / 15kg onboard.
Note that the weight limit applies to carry-on and personal item combined. So don’t exceed this number!
Certain items are not allowed as hand luggage. The good news is you can check them at no additional cost.
-
Stroller/Walker/Car Seat (Foldable light-weight strollers or walkers, and FAA-approved child safety seats are accepted as hand carry)
-
Bassinet
-
Wheelchair.
Scoot Checked Baggage Allowance Policy
The maximum checked luggage dimensions are 158cm linear inches (length + height + width). Checked baggage cannot weigh more than 70 lbs / 32kg per item, regardless of the quantity of baggage booked.
The cost of checked luggage is determined by the price type you select.
-
Economy fliers have no complimentary checked bag.
-
As a Scoot Plus passenger, you can carry up to 66 lbs / 30kg of checked luggage for free – a fantastic price.
If your luggage weighs more than 70 lbs / 32kg, you will be required to repack it. However, regardless of which pricing package you select, you can purchase up to 40kg of checked luggage online. If you want to travel with more than the allowed amount, the airline suggests purchasing up to 88 lbs / 40 kg of checked luggage in advance online.
Overall, with a cheap flight ticket price along with a variety of simple and practical baggage allowances, Scoot will definitely help you become more comfortable with luggage preparation for your upcoming travel.

Everything you need to know about Scoot’s baggage policy.
Scoot's Excess Baggage Policy
If you need to carry extra luggage because your luggage is too big, you can buy an allowance when you buy the ticket, after you buy it, or at the airport.
Excess baggage costs are assessed during check-in and can be paid individually by credit card or cash, depending on the mode of payment at the airport counter.
Excess baggage is generally charged S$20 (Singapore Dollar) per 1kg (2.2 lbs) - added to your luggage allowance for flights under 5 hours. For flights longer than 5 hours, you will be charged around S$25 per 1kg (2.2 pounds). Fees are paid in the local currency of the port of departure and are subject to the daily exchange rate.
The actual cost will be determined by when you purchase the supplement and the weight of your additional bag. To find out the exact cost of your flight, go to the Scoot website and use the payment tool.
Please ensure that your carry-on baggage does not exceed the permissible criteria before arriving at the airport; otherwise, you will have to check in your baggage at the airport and will have to pay the baggage costs.
Special equipment
Sporting Equipment
Per Scoot’s policy, sporting equipment is counted toward your baggage allowance.
If the equipment exceeds 32 kg or the standard dimensions, you may need to contact Scoot Cargo.
Oversized musical instruments (e.g., cello, double bass) aren’t allowed as cabin baggage but can be carried on board if you purchase an extra seat and the instrument meets specific size/weight limits.
CPAP
You can carry CPAP machines onto the plane. Like with any carrier, you need to inform the airlines at least 48 hours before departure. If you want to use the device in-flight, make sure it fits the underseat space. Otherwise, you will have to store it in the overhead cabin space and are not allowed to use CPAP during the flight.
Booking and Check-in with Scoot
Booking
The booking process with Scoot Airlines can be done easily through their website or mobile app. Booking via online travel agents (OTAs) is also variable, but as always, we recommend booking directly through the airlines for the best deals and support.

FAQs
Can I Bring A Backpack And Carry On A Scoot?
Yes, certainly. Every Scoot ticket tier allows two cabin items: one larger carry‑on (store in the overhead bin) and one smaller personal item (like a handbag, laptop bag or small backpack). The combined weight and dimensions depend on your fare class. For all classes, the main bag must not exceed 54 × 38 × 23 cm, and the personal item must fit under the seat and stay within 40 × 30 × 10 cm.
What Are The Rules For Checked Baggage?
Scoot’s checked baggage rules vary by ticket type. Basic ticket comes with no complimentary checked bags. The higher class has a 30kg free hold bag allowance. You can pre‑purchase 20 kg to 40 kg of checked allowance online (purchasing in advance is cheaper than at the airport).
How much does Scoot charge for 20kg baggage?
Scoot doesn’t publish a single, flat price for a 20 kg checked‑baggage allowance because the fee depends on your route and when you buy it (during booking, after booking or at the airport).
