Qatar Airways Baggage Allowance Policy
While the variety of classes provide customers with great flexibility and choices, it can also be a bit confusing at times. Worry not, as the CabinZero Crew has got you covered. We have prepared the most comprehensive breakdown of Qatar Airways’ baggage policy for you.
Passengers are allowed to bring carry-on baggage on Qatar Airways flights. The dimension and weight requirements differ based on your boarding class.
Your baggage should be maximum 20 x 15 x 10 in (50 x 37 x 25 cm) in dimensions;
First class and Business class passengers can bring up to 2 bags on board, both of which do not exceed 33 lbs/ 15 kg in total.
Economy class passengers can bring 1 bag on board, which does not exceed 22 lbs/ 10 kg for flights to/from Brazil or 15 lbs/ 7 kg on other flights.
Additional Carry-on allowance
In addition to your carry-on baggage, the following personal items are allowed:
- A lady’s handbag;
- A small briefcase;
- A coat, a cape, or a blanket;
- An umbrella;
- A pair of crutches or a walking stick;
- A small camera or binoculars;
- Limited reading material;
- An infant’s carrying basket;
- Duty-free items bought on the day of the flight.
Unlike other airlines that tend to go for a more linear baggage policy, Qatar Airways’ policy is a bit different. Let’s have a look.
Where the weight concept applies, the number of pieces will not be considered, only the weight and total dimensions will be taken into consideration.
Where the piece concept applies, it is similar to conventional allowance rules, where there will be a limit to the number of pieces allowed as well as to dimensions and weight per piece.
When you fly on routes where the weight concept applies, you can technically bring as many pieces of luggage as you see fit on board (or check them in for that matter), as long as the cumulative weight doesn’t cross the limit. This limit will vary heavily depending on flight and booking class.
The baggage requirements go as below:
- The size of the luggage must not exceed 62.2 in (158 cm) per piece;
- In terms of weight concept, the size of the checked bag must not exceed 118 in (300 cm) in combined dimensions;
- No single piece can exceed 70.5 lbs (32 kg);
- Qatar Airways baggage fee will apply if the passenger exceeds the weight and/or piece allowance on their ticket.
Where the piece concept applies, it will vary depending on the class you’re boarding.
For flights to/from Africa or America, all Economy classes passengers can check in 2 bags of maximum 50 lbs or 23 kg.
For flights to/from other destinations:
- Economy Classic passengers can check in 1 bag of maximum 55 lbs (25 kg);
- Economy Convenience passengers can check in 1 bag of maximum 66 lbs (30 kg);
- Economy Comfort passengers can check in 1 bag of maximum 77 lbs (35 kg).
All Business Classes’ passengers can check in 2 pieces of baggage, both of which cannot exceed 70 lbs/ 32 kg if they’re flying from/to Africa or America, or 88 lbs/40 kg for other routes.
All First Class Elite passengers can check in 2 pieces of baggage, both of which cannot exceed 70 lbs/ 32 kg if they’re flying from/to Africa or America, or 110 lbs/50 kg for other routes.
Although Qatar Airways doesn’t limit the number of bags you can check, they do charge, with increasing price for each bag.
The maximum weight allowed per bag is 50 lbs (23 kg), while the maximum cumulative size is 62 inches (158 cm). The 1st bag costs $30, the 2nd one costs $45, and the 3rd one costs $150. The 4th one onward costs $200 each.
Although there will be some variations depending on travel destinations and fare rules. The main points go as below:
Baggage over 126 in (320 cm) will not be accepted;
Excess weight of over 45 kg will not be accepted;
Passengers boarding on Business or First Class tickets can take up to 3 bags up to 70 lbs (32 kg) without incurring any surcharges.
For further details, please refer to Qatar Airways’ official website.
For every infant (aged 8 days to 2 years old), the accompanying parents are allowed to bring one stroller, collapsible carrycot, or pushchair for free.
In terms of baggage allowance, each infant will be allotted one piece of baggage of up to 50 lbs (23 kg) where piece concept applies, or 22 lbs (10 kg) max where weight concept applies. This goes for all travel classes.
